With the country regaining a sense of normalcy after a tumultuous year dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, many people in North Carolina are looking for new experiences to explore safely. Dining at eateries is gaining attention again, so you may consider Googling “restaurants near me” to find a new place to dine.

Restaurants aren’t only good places to sample new cuisine. They’re also excellent places to try new drinks. With the summer season quickly approaching, discovering refreshing beverages is a great way to stay cool and enhance your dining experience.

Here are several delicious and energizing non-alcoholic drinks to try this summer.

Why Are Summer Drinks Important?

Many people don’t give much thought to what they drink when temperatures are high. However, your beverage choice can make a difference in how you feel.

When temperatures reach sweltering highs, people often feel tired, hot, and sweaty, leading to dehydration unless they drink enough fluids. In the summer, it’s best to drink at least three liters of water per day.

Drinking that much water can be challenging for some people, but healthy flavored beverages can make hydration a breeze. The summer drinks on this list will cool you down, quench your thirst, and provide vital hydration.

Top 7 Drinks To Try This Summer

1. Cantaloupe Mint Agua Fresca

Agua fresca is a Spanish term meaning “fresh water.” They’re non-alcoholic drinks consisting of fruits, flowers, seeds, or cereals mixed with water and sugar. The beverage is light, sweet, and flavorful.

The cantaloupe mint agua fresca is simple, and it draws heavily on the flavors of fresh cantaloupe with a hint of mint. The drink is made with cold water and is best served over ice because it brings the flavors of mint and melon together wonderfully. A splash of lemon or lime juice adds a bit of acidity to add more complexity to the sweet drink.

2. Sugarcane Juice

If you need a little help battling summertime fatigue, sugarcane juice makes an excellent alternative to coffee. The drink is nothing more than the liquid extractions from pressed sugarcane. It’s packed with hydrating electrolytes and antioxidants, which help boost the body’s immunity.

It also contains plenty of healthy minerals like zinc, iron, and potassium, so it’s one of the more nutritious drinks to enjoy if you need an energy boost.

3. Lemonade

The simplicity of lemonade is what makes it a classic summertime beverage. A lemonade base is fresh lemon juice, water, and sugar. However, some restaurants enhance the taste by adding other fruits like lime or raspberry to the mix or complementary flavors from black salt or mint.

Chilled lemonade will undoubtedly keep you cool on a hot summer day. The sweetness and tartness from the citrus and sugar also pair well with many types of food, making it an ideal mealtime beverage.

4. Buttermilk

Most people cook with buttermilk, but what about consuming it as a beverage? In North India, it’s a popular dairy drink for the summer because it acts as a natural coolant for the body.

Choose to drink it plain or add flavor from mint leaves, black salt, or roasted cumin seed powder. Not only is buttermilk tasty, but it also has lots of health benefits like digestion assistance and bone strength.

5. Summer Melon Sorbet Floats

As a fruity and fizzy drink, a melon sorbet float is both refreshing and fun. It consists of an assortment of frozen melon balls, like watermelon, honeydew, cantaloupe, two scoops of a fruity sorbet, and seltzer water.

As the sorbet melts, it flavors the fizzy water. You can eat the melon when the water is gone, which will also take on some of the sorbet’s flavor. It’s a fresh take on the overly sweet root beer float.

6. Jaljeera

Jaljeera is a unique summer drink made with water, roasted cumin seeds, powdered black pepper, fresh coriander, rock salt, and mint. Jaljeera is a refreshing summer drink, especially topped with ice cubes and a splash of lemon juice for acidity.

7. Coconut Water

Coconut water is a popular addition to many beverages. However, it’s just as tasty to drink alone. It has a mild sweetness, and it doesn’t have overbearing flavors.

Though it has one of the mildest flavors on the list, coconut water is incredibly healthy. It’s naturally cholesterol-free and fat-free, and it helps reduce blood pressure while increasing hydration.

About Eddie’s on Lake Norman

Ann-Margaret Wagner brings her hospitality and restaurant expertise from New York to the shores of Lake Norman with Eddie’s On Lake Norman. Ann-Margaret is the former owner of a successful restaurant in Westchester County, New York, called The Muscoot Tavern, an iconic “Cheers-like” bar and grille. After visiting Lake Norman, she fell in love with the area, saw potential in the restaurant, and decided to make North Carolina her new home with her daughter Lacy.

After purchasing the business, which was previously Vinnie’s Sardine Grille and Raw Bar, she completely renovated the entire space, sold the other restaurant, and moved south. The kitchen is filled with all new appliances, while the bar, dining room, and back patio were all touched up to create a clean, comfortable and relaxed atmosphere.
